Harry Potter Month is hosted by Faith at Geeky Zoo Girl and Micheline at Lunar Rainbows Reviews. This awesome event runs all through July, and you can find more information about it here.
Hello, everyone! I hope you're all having a wonderful Harry Potter Month so far! As much as I enjoy writing discussion-type posts about HP, I really wanted to do something creative and a little bit different for this year's event. I'm a planner geek and absolutely live by my planner, so I thought it might be fun to imagine what an HP character's typical day might look like. I also wanted to choose a character who would seem unlikely to use a planner, lol, and Filch popped into my head. So here's a day in the life of Argus Filch, Hogwarts' harried caretaker:
- 5 AM: Wake up, get ready for another day of students sassing me and leaving messes everywhere for me to clean up. No time to comb hair.
- 5:15 AM: Eat breakfast, feed Mrs. Norris.
- 5:30 AM: Go over to-do list for the day and prioritize. Make sure to allow extra 30-60 minutes on schedule to tend to whatever mischief the Weasley twins and/or Peeves have made overnight.
- 5:45 AM: Start morning sweep of corridors w/Mrs. Norris. Make sure everything looks in order; take care of any necessary cleanups after first examining scene for clues and identifying potential culprits (i.e. Peeves, Fred and George Weasley or their known associates, like Harry Potter).
- 8:45 AM: Log morning's findings.
- 9:00 AM: Attempt to meet with the Headmaster re: known troublemakers @ Hogwarts and how they should be punished/expelled. Dumbledore somehow always has another "urgent matter" that needs his attention at this time every day. Starting to think he's brushing me off . . . .
- 9:30 AM Routine castle maintenance. Mrs. Norris will continue to patrol for misbehaving students.
- 12:30 PM: Lunch.
- 1:00 PM: 15-minute power nap. Mrs. Norris will wake me if needed.
- 1:15 PM: Wake up so Mrs. Norris can catnap. Tidy up havoc wreaked by students during morning classes. If only this school taught a mandatory class on cleanliness! Note to self: suggest this to Dumbledore @ next meeting (whenever that happens).
- 3:15 PM: Tea break w/Mrs. Norris
- 3:30 PM: Resume patrolling.
- 5:30 PM: Catch some sleep while students are getting ready for/are @ dinner. Mrs. Norris on duty.
- 7:30 PM: Dinner.
- 8:00 PM: Update Weasley twins' file.
- 9:00 PM: Read Mrs. Norris a bedtime story, then start solo night patrol of corridors. Students out of bed? Not on my watch!
- 2:00 AM: Sleep. Mrs. Norris on patrol until morning.
There are no words for how much I enjoyed reading this Lee^^ As I'm typing, I still have a wide smile on my face --> :D And the fact that you made me enjoy a post about FILCH so much is all the more shocking! I LOVE Filch's journal day-plan. You incorporated Mrs Norris, and Dumbledore avoiding him, the Weasleys, Peeves, Harry Potter! Aahhhh! This is brilliant!!! xxxx
ReplyDeleteHehe, I'm glad you had a good chuckle! I had so much fun writing this, although I was a little hesitant about posting because I wasn't quite sure if what seemed funny to me would seem funny to anyone else. XD Filch would probably lock his planner up in his office only to have Fred and George sneak in there to read it, lol.
DeleteI'm half expecting a crazy half hour where he's just chasing rowdy students away lol
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good one- I'm sure he does fit that into his day, LOL!
DeleteThis is so creative and hilarious!! I'd like more of other characters like Umbridge ;) I don't know why the best part to me was 'no time to comb hair'. My goodness this had me laughing!
ReplyDeleteI feel like he blames Hogwarts students for everything, so why not his messy hair, too? LOL! At first I thought about featuring Voldemort, but the Filch post just kind of fell into place. Umbridge would be a good character to do this for, too; she probably takes time to practice saying, "hem hem!" XD
DeleteYes!! Hahaha :D Lockhart would be a good one too
DeleteAgreed! Probably lots of time in front of the mirror for him, lolol!
DeleteOh, that's excellent! I had lots of fun reading it and imagining Filch sitting at his desk and writing it while consulting Mrs Norris on each and every point. Actually, it does make sense for Filch to keep a planner. He loves order and I think he would love to order his day and return to it - just so he could keep on track - after someone's unsanctioned mess or mischief.
ReplyDeleteI think he'd get *very* upset if his day got thrown too far off schedule thanks to student mischief. :D And consulting Mrs. Norris on every item on the list definitely sounds like something Filch would do!
DeleteThis is hilarious! I love that you chose Filch to focus on, it's great seeing what his day might look like. I almost feel sorry for him. My favorite part is the idea that Filch and Mrs. Norris sleep in shifts. That's just brilliant! And he reads her a bedtime story! I wonder what he reads, maybe an old book about students being brought to justice.lol
ReplyDeleteThey are quite the pair.
LOL- I'm sure he reads her something along those lines! I figured that Filch and Mrs. Norris most likely took turns sleeping so that one of them would always be on the lookout for troublemakers! :D
DeleteThis is excellent! Such a creative post, and it really does sound like the grumblings of Filch! lol. I love the idea that Mrs. Norris and Filch take shifts, so there's always someone/cat on the look out for troublemakers. Also, it's hilarious that Filch has an assumed time in which he'll update the twins file!
ReplyDeleteI doubt Filch would be able to stand the thought of the halls going unpatrolled for very long, lol. And I can totally picture him adding lots of notes to the twins' file every day, lol!
DeleteThis is FANTASTIC! I love that Filch leaves an hour in his daily schedule *just to update Fred & George's files.* Perfection. ^_^
ReplyDeleteKnowing Fred and George, Filch probably needs more than an hour, lol!
