As we edge ever closer to the end of 2013, I've been giving quite a bit of thought to what's transpired book-wise so far this year. With not that much time remaining until 2014 arrives, here are a few things I still hope to get done before we officially welcome a new year.
- Read Divergent. I've lost track of how long I've been saying that I'm going to read this book. I'm habitually late in reading mega-hyped books, and that's what's happened with Divergent. I will read this book. I will read this book. I will read this book . . . .
- Complete the Australian Women Writer's Challenge. I fizzled out with both the Paranormal Reading Challenge and the Sequel Challenge, especially once my reading time took a severe cut. I'm 1 book away from completing the AWWC, however, and that's totally feasible. I'll most likely go with a Melina Marchetta title.
- Read a Christmas-Themed Book. I got this idea last year, when I wished that I'd thought to read Dash and Lily's Book of Dares much closer to the holidays. This year, I've got my eye set on Let It Snow: Three Holiday Romances by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle.
- Buy Some Bookshelves. My lack of shelf space has reached a critical level, and I need to address this crisis. ASAP.
- Go to the Library. The library and I have been strangers since . . . August? Yeah, it's been a loooong while. Toooo loooong.
I really wanted to make the move to WordPress this year, but it's just not going to happen in the near future. It's definitely still on my to-do list; there's a big question surrounding the projected date, however.
I aim to check off everything on this list by December 31. Time's-a-tickin', so I need to quit writing about what I'm planning to do and actually put those plans into action.
Are there any bookish goals you're still hoping to achieve before 2013 is over?
Divergent is a lot of fun! Post pictures if you get bookshelves!
ReplyDeleteI felt so left out when everyone was posting their reviews of Allegiant, lol. And I'll definitely post pics if I'm able to get new shelves!
DeleteI haven't been in the library in a long time too! My personal stack of books is my priority now til next year and I've laid off NG & EW. I'm planning on reading Christmas themed books myself, get me in the mood for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI just want to go to the library and be surrounded by books again and not even borrow anything, lol. At this point, my card probably needs a good dusting!
DeleteI had the same thought when I read Dash & Lily's Book of Dares a couple of years ago, although I think I read it early fall, so I wasn't too far off from the holidays. Another book that I think would make a good holiday read is Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler since it takes place in winter!
ReplyDeleteAs for bookish goals, I'm hoping to maybe finish up some of the reading challenges I signed up for! I was doing so well at the beginning of the year, but somewhere along the way I just stopped keeping track, so I have to catch up somehow!
I'll have to check out the Sarah Ockler book- thanks for the recommendation! And good luck with your reading challenges! :)
DeleteRead Divergent! And read Melina Marchetta! I approve of those two goals especially. ;p
ReplyDeleteBookish goals for me tie into blogging: just be consistent. Write things worth reading. Read more. Balance school better.

I still have 3 Melina Marchetta books to read, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to cry when I run out. I hope she has something new in the works.
DeleteIt's been really hard for me the last few months to balance book-related stuff with the rest of life. It's something I really want to work on in the new year.
LOL I realized a few weeks ago that it's been about 3 months since I've posted anything for the Paranormal or Sequel Reading Challenges. I failed on those. I really want to read Divergent too. I can't believe you haven't had a library run in so long. Love your end of year goals! All very possible :D Good luck! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
ReplyDeleteI thought the Paranormal and Sequel challenges were going to be pretty easy to keep up with because I normally read a lot of both, but things just didn't work out that way this year, lol.
DeleteOhhh, you haven't read Divergent yet? That really is late. I mean, never mind you've got the entire awesomeness in front of you, but Divergent really is one of those books that I think you just can't get around without reading :) My problem with hyped up series is generally not that I don't want to read them during the hype - I really, really do! - but just that there are so many I can't seem to get through them/afford all of them :) Anyway, good luck with your bookish goals - I'm sure you can meet all of them before the year ends! PS: Didn't 2013 go by FAST??? I still can't believe it's going to be December next week !!!
ReplyDeleteI feel like this has been one of the fastest moving years of my life; seriously- 2013 has gone by in a blur! Looking at this list I've made, I've got a lot of work to do in the next few weeks, lol.
DeleteWhere's a Time-Turner or a TARDIS when you need one right?? 2013 just flew by and I know you can relate to working more equaling not enough time to read! :( This year marks the first time I won't reach my reading goal for the year. Double :( Anyways I think your goals here are totally do-able! I either didn't know (or I'd forgotten) that you haven't read Divergent yet but I hope you get to it - you CAN DO IT!! It's a pretty fast read too so it should be no problem :D Oh and one book shy of the AWWC? That one's a no-brainer hehe
ReplyDeleteI remember wishing I had a Christmas-y read last holiday season too but I'd need something...well, not contemporary. Which is a challenge. Sigh. I hope you get to read a few good ones! I can also relate to an upgraded bookcase...or cases >.< Good luck with all your bookish goals Lee!
OMG, I watched The Day of the Doctor even though I've only seen a Doctor Who episode here and there, and it blew my mind! I've been itching to Netflix ALL THE EPISODES ever since (especially the David Tennant ones!!), but I really do need a TARDIS to have some time to spare for watching TV. GAH!
DeleteI'll definitely be setting my Goodreads challenge much lower for 2014, lol. But, I am very happy and thankful to be working, and it also means I can buy a bookshelf or two without feeling guilty. :D
Absolutely go with a Melina Marchetta book ... if you want help deciding, you can read my recent post http://jackieleasommers.com/2013/11/13/spotlight-on-melina-marchetta!
ReplyDeleteI'm probably going with Looking for Alibrandi; it's been sitting on my shelf for ages, begging me to read it!
DeleteYay Melina Marchetta! Love her! I love Christmas, but I've never read a Christmas-themed book! Maybe I should do that! I have small goals like finish books I left unfinished! I'm sure I could come up with a lot more if I let myself think about it! Good luck finishing your list!
ReplyDeleteMelina Marchetta instantly became one of my favorite authors after I read Finnikin of the Rock. She's simply amazing! I can't think of a better way to close out the year in reading than with one of her books. :)
