Harry Potter Moment of the Week (1): Favorite Moment in Book 2

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/films/J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! A list of upcoming topics can be found here.

This week's topic is:
Favorite Moment in Book 2

This is our first time participating in this meme, and we're all very much excited! Seeing that all of us are obsessed with all things Harry Potter and the wizarding world, we figured that this would be right up our alley.

One of our most favorite moments from Chamber of Secrets, both in the book and the movie, has to be the flashback of the young Tom Riddle that Harry experiences while reading the future Dark Lord's diary. First of all, we found it ridiculously cool that the part of Tom's soul in the diary was able to communicate with Harry. It was even more amazing to get a glimpse of the past, seeing Hogwarts with Dumbledore as the Transfiguration professor and Hagrid and Tom as students. Not to mention, the actor who plays Tom Riddle in the movie, Christian Coulson, is a very handsome fellow!

What's your favorite moment from Chamber of Secrets?

  1. Ohhhh great choice! Tom Riddle is definitely a guy that we all love to hate and it was sooo interesting finding out about him.

    1. The first time I read Chamber of Secrets, I was floored by the big reveal of Riddle's identity. I still love watching that scene in the movie, too.

    2. I think that's my favourite scene too! When you find out that Tom is actually Lord Voldemort.

    3. When he started rearranging the letters his name, I wanted to slap myself in the head for not figuring it out sooner, lol.

  2. That part for me was a little scary. I mean how powerful is Voldemort, and was at 16, even! Crazy :D

    1. It was crazy how he went from model student to ultimate evil, and how at first Harry thought Riddle was going to help him in the Chamber and instead Riddle set the basilisk on him!

  3. I thought the actor who played him was hot too at the time, LOL.

I haven't read the books in years, but they were one of the rare series I would read and reread. I don't do that often. =)

    1. When I saw the movie, I couldn't help wondering if it was wrong to think young Voldemort was really good looking, lol.

I haven't read the books in a few years, either, and for me, they're also ones that I could happily reread over and over.

  4. I think that first instant where the diary starts responding to him is very powerful. I agree, the fact that his soul could communicate was outrageous and the glimpses that we got of the past were wonderful! Excellent choice of moment :D Also, I love the meme pic you guys have! 1. It was so chilling when the diary answered Harry! I loved seeing that scene come to life in the movie.

  5. HARRY POTTER FTW! Yes, I am totally obsessed with Harry Potter too.

I look forward to you guys participating in this meme.

That is definitely a great element of the novel. Another creepy part for me that I love and hate is Aragog and when Ron and Harry venture into his lair and he tries to kill them. It terrified me immensely. I hate spiders with a passion, but Ron was just so amusing. I would have been worse than him in his wuss state.

    1. I'm not a big fan of spiders, either; I would have fainted just seeing the spider trails inside of Hogwarts, lol!

  6. There are so many wonderful moments in this book and in the series. I liked the one you highlighted. I also liked how the movie portrayed it. I was so confused at first at how his soul could stay in the diary, until the last two books at least :)

    1. I thought it was brilliant how the diary tied into the later books in the series. J. K. Rowling is such a genius!

  7. OMG YES! I've had my eye on this meme for awhile now and seeing you guys join makes me want to jump in too :D LOVE the moment you picked from CoS! Those flashbacks into Tom's past and how Tom himself reached out with that diary are SO fascinating! And looking back how THAT was the first hint of things to come...and how important that clue was to, well everything. *sigh* And to me, Christian Coulson IS Tom Riddle. He is exactly as described by Rowling in the book and I always imagine HIM in HBP...I wish he'd been in that movie! Another favorite moment for me is the Weasley's breaking Harry out of #4 Privet and Harry's first moments at the Burrow: ''I think it's brilliant!'' ♥ Loved this post, thanks for sharing ladies!

    1. We're such HP fangirls, and when we discovered this meme, we HAD to participate! It took us no time at all to unanimously decide on which CoS moment we wanted to pick. I had so hoped to see Christian Coulson in HBP, too. And I loved the description of the Burrow; I thought the Weasleys' clock that showed where all the family members were was too cool!

  8. I agree.. this was a great part in the film. Harry gets to see Riddle around the same age as himself. I think this helps Harry realize that Tom was once like himself until the evilness slowly ate away ate him.

    1. Excellent point. And Harry did see parallels between the young Riddle's life and his own.
