This week's topic is:
If You Could Change One Thing from the Fifth Film, What Would It Be?
The short answer is that Scene-That-Must-Not-Be-Named in which a certain wizard meets a certain fate at the hands of a certain Death Eater. *sniff* That happens in the book, though, and so it must be endured in the film version as well, I suppose.
Part 2 of my answer is: maybe tone down how grumpy Dumbledore continues to be in the OotP movie? In the book, Dumbledore tries to distance himself from Harry, but movie Dumbledore is pretty blatant about it. At the end of the scene where Umbridge is about to evict Trelawney, Dumbledore growls, "Don't you all have studying to do?!" at the assembled crowd of students and stomps off with Harry calling after him. It's just not very subtle, and it's like Mean Dumbledore from the Goblet of Fire film has returned.

RIGHT?! Dumbledore is like a grumpy old crank in this one. I much prefer his quiet removal in the books...but then again, I ALWAYS prefer Dumbledore from the books (from the third film on LOL) and beyond that, Dumbledore's tactics here, though understandable have always bothered me because they obviously hurt Harry and I can't deal with my little Potter having MORE pain dammit!
ReplyDeleteDumbledore putting distance between him and Harry was so tough to read, and even tougher to watch! The scene in his office after Arthur's attack was also pretty wince-worthy. :/
DeleteAw sounds like movie Dumbledore needs a chill pill! But I post on these even though I haven't read em or watched em, so ignore me lol. Happy Friday anyway!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great weekend, Greg! Movie Dumbledore #2 definitely needed a chill pill in just about every movie he was in. :/ He was sooo cranky sometimes, lol.
DeleteYeah that was painful to watch.
ReplyDeleteI wish Dumbledore didn't come across as a conniving manipulator too. I think it's in the last movie when Harry saw Snape's memories that we saw Dumbledore saying Harry is or must die to end Voldemort for good and Snape replied "like a pig to a slaughter,". Hated him a bit for that
I know what you mean. Dumbledore didn't come across with quite the right amount of compassion in that scene. :/
DeleteI wanted to see Harry wreck Dumbledore's office XD.
ReplyDeleteMy latest post: Giveaway: Enter to win a paperback copy of A Court of Wings and Ruin (International)
