Harry Potter Moment of the Week (113)

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts and Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/films/J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! A list of upcoming topics can be found here.

This week's topic is:
If You Could Change One Thing from the Second Film, What Would It Be?

This is probably just me, but I always felt that the ending was a little . . . awkward? Of course I'm happy that Hagrid returns to Hogwarts after so wrongly being taken to Azkaban, but the Hagrid lovefest that breaks out in the Great Hall at the end of the film has always made me scratch my head a bit. Maybe I just have secondhand embarrassment on Hagrid's behalf, because having everyone looking at me and clapping for me would have left me mortified, lol.

  1. I definitely feel the secondhand embarrassment during that scene too XD Plus, in the books, not everyone is such a huge fan of Hagrid's as the trio, so it is unlikely that everyone would have welcomed him back in such an enthusiastic way...in any case, it all comes off a little clichéed.

    1. That's exactly it. I get that they didn't want to end with a scene of everyone leaving on the Hogwarts Express again like in the first film, but I would've preferred that over the "everyone cheer for Hagrid!" ending.

  2. Ha, secondhand embarrassment. Well I think I agree with you there. It sucks when people turn on you, and then later are like oh yea I knew all along it wasn't your fault. Fakers. lol

    1. LOL! I'd never thought of that before, but it's so true!

  3. I was pretty amazed that there was so much cheering as it seemed through the books that only their little group along with the Order were every fans of Hagrid. Even fellow Gryffindors didn't care for him a whole lot. I think that scene should have been a little more private for sure. Great choice :D

    1. It just seemed out of place for the entire school to erupt in cheers, especially when Crabbe starts to stand up. Malfoy grabs him, but I don't think book Crabbe would've even thought twice about doing that in the first place!

  4. I agree with you there. It's extremely awkward and for a moment there you just don't know if the rest of the school is actually going to start cheering too or will they just ignore Hagrid. As for me, I also chose the ending, though, in my case, because I was really looking forward to seeing it shown just like in the books. I always loved that bit when reading and I was really disappointed with the awkwardness that we got instead. 1. I'm totally with you on wishing that the movie ending had been much closer to the one in the book. I still remember when I saw the film for the first time and was like, um, ok? during the finale, lol.
