Harry Potter Moment of the Week (52): Scariest Place in the Books

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/films/J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! A list of upcoming topics can be found here.

This week's topic is:
Scariest Place in the Books

One of the most shudder-inducing parts in the books for me is when Harry and Dumbledore are in the cave looking for Slytherin's locket. From the moment they Apparated next to that foreboding cliff, I had the chills. Things just got creepier and creepier as they made their way into the cave itself, and when Harry realized what was in the lake . . . I was seriously freaking out by then. And then things got REALLY scary once the Inferi started swarming Harry and Dumbledore. But, one of my favorite movie moments takes place in this awful, awful place: when Dumbledore sets it absolutely ablaze with his wand.

  1. THAT CAVE *shudders* This place got a mention from me too this week. Just knowing what Tom Riddle had done in that place as a boy...and what he went to hide there as an adult O.O And like you said, as soon as Dumbledore and Harry Apparate on that cliff, I was terrified. Of course, then there was when the Inferi awaken...and I jumped out of my skin! But yeah when Dumbledore fights them off? That is some EPIC magic right there ♥ Awesome pick Lee ^^

    1. To think that Riddle was terrorizing other orphans at a young age still makes me shiver. Reading about the Inferi-filled lake was scary enough, and then to see it on film- eek! I was even creeped out playing that scene in the HP Lego video game, lol.

  2. Definitely have to agree, when they jump out of the lake and grab for Harry that is scary or in Chamber of Secrets where Ron and Harry face the spiders because I absolutely hate spiders.

    1. UGH- spiders! I don't care for them, either. In fact, my other pick for this week's topic was the Forbidden Forest, specifically the part of it where Aragog and his family live!

    1. You just knew that the cave was going to be a completely terrifying experience when Dumbledore warned Harry how dangerous the journey they were about to undertake could potentially be before they left Hogwarts. Everything about that place was so touched by evil!

  4. Right?! There seemed to be countless Inferi in that lake! *Shivers*

    1. Dumbledore and Harry's entire time in that place was terrifying, at least for me as a reader, lol. It was crushing when Harry realized that after everything they went through, the locket was a fake.

  6. Oh that's such a great choice! Oddly enough I didn't even think of it. I guess since Dumbledore was there with him, my mind was more at ease there, but I can completely see how terrifying that would be. Mine would have to be Aragog's cave. I'm horribly scared of spiders and that scene in the movie, I can't even watch. Next to that would have been the Malfoy Mansion in DH. Between Bellatrix, Nagini, Voldemort, and the Malfoys all there, I would've been shaking in my boots. Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. I kind of avert my eyes during the forest scenes with Aragog, too, lol. I absolutely hate it when he sends all of his children after Harry and Ron, and there are spiders just EVERYWHERE. The Malfoy manor is also ranked very low on places in the series I'd like to visit!
