Harry Potter Moment of the Week (47): Bravest Character Moment

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/films/J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! A list of upcoming topics can be found here.

This week's topic is:
Bravest Character Moment

There's no shortage of these moments to choose from throughout the series, so once again, I find myself picking more than one. I can't not mention Harry meeting Voldemort in the forest in Deathly Hallows. It's not the first time Harry's faced him, but this time, Harry knows about the prophecy and the Horcruxes and that he has to willingly walk into his death. Not an easy thing to do.

And then there's Neville standing up to Voldemort, also in DH. Man, was that a badass scene in the movie. Like, on a scale of 1 to 10, it was a million!

  1. Aaah I also picked the moment where Neville stands up to Voldemort! It's just such an amazing moment for him. Harry meeting Voldemort in the Forest always makes me sad but also really proud of Harry, in a strange way! Just so courageous! Great choice!

    1. I had such a hard time choosing between Neville and Harry's moments in DH that I HAD to pick both! They're both so heroic, and there's something extra poignant about the way their two lives were intertwined by the prophecy.

  2. I think it's impossible to think of brave moment in ALL of fiction WITHOUT thinking of Harry sacrificing himself in the forest! Gah that scene shattered my heart into a million pieces and filled me with hope, sadness and respect for Harry. It was perfection and achingly beautiful ♥ And I love that Neville finally gets his moment to shine and we get to see how truly far he's come. Harry inspired him for 7 years and it all came down to doing what needed to be done. And Neville stepped up! Awesome choices Lee!!

    1. Neville was just amazing in DH- leading the DA in Harry's absence and really going all rebel, undermining Snape as Headmaster. And Harry in the forest- that has to be one of my scenes/chapters in literature. :D

  3. Definitely one of my favorite scene, movie and book wise. Just so heartbreaking, but not in the bad way. It just shows how really selfless Harry is. Great pick!

    1. Everything in the series led up to that moment, and JKR just totally delivered with that scene. I tear up every time I read it in the book or watch it in the movie- so moving and powerful.

  4. I picked the same moment because I think it's THE moment of the books. Nothing else comes close than the ultimate sacrifice to evil for eternal good. Loved and hated that part.

    1. YES- I absolutely agree that the forest scene is the definitive moment of the books! All of the courage that it took Harry to make that journey- ahh, I'm getting weepy just thinking about it!

  5. I was like you, and really really couldn't choose! I eventually went for the moment Hermione removes her parents' memories. Harry fully intends to sacrifice himself for other people, but who loves him will remember him. In comparison, Hermione removes her parents' memories based on a possibility, knowing that if they lose, her family will never even mourn her.

    1. Watching Hermione in the movie remove herself from family photographs and then walk out of her parents' house was heartbreaking! Definitely one of her most courageous moments!

  6. You listed my two moments for sure. I loved watching Neville go from having a heart-attack if Snape was around to fully owning that scene in DH. Priceless. Also, Harry walking into that forest knowing exactly what it meant. I think it has to take more bravery to not fight than to fight. Wonderful choices :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. I remember when Neville's boggart took the form of Snape! I loved that Neville got to be such a hero and showed his Gryffindor courage! And Harry- he knew what needed to be done, and he did it so nobly.
