Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews. It's an opportunity for everyone to share the new books that we've acquired.
My cousin and co-blogger Ally, who's been absent around here thanks to AP exams and rehearsals for her band concert, did find time last week to read Jennifer L. Armentrout's Obsidian plus get me to read it along with her. Thanks to Ally, I had to immediately buy copies of Onyx and Opal after finishing Obsidian. I also spotted For Darkness Shows the Stars, which I've desperately wanted to read, on Amazon for $7.20, and I grabbed that, too.

I'll be interested in your thoughts on For Darkness Shows the Stars. I've never read Persuasion, so have refrained from picking it up so far, because I have a thing about reading retellings before I read the book they're based on. That probably makes me weird.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
My StS post :)
I'm the same way with retellings- I have to read the original first. Even though I've read Persuasion more than once, I'm leaning toward reading it again before starting For Darkness Shows the Stars. Persuasion is my favorite novel ever, so it'd be a very welcome reread.
DeleteI've heard so many positive reviews on Obsidian, I'm convinced I'm missing out. I'm now moving that to the top of my wish list. With starting college in the fall, all I can do for the moment is "wish". Any who, happy happy reading!
ReplyDeleteIt took me forever to read Obsidian, and at first I wasn't all that impressed, but now I'm really into the series. I can see why so many readers loved it, but also why it didn't work for others. It was a quick read for me, and a lot of fun.
DeleteI love JLA :) And I also need to pick up a copy of For Darkness Shows the Stars! Awesome haul :)

My Haul!
Once I finish Lux, I want to check out her Covenant series eventually. I've heard great things about that one, too.
DeleteNice haul! I want to read For Darkness Shows the Stars! :)
ReplyDeleteI love, love Persuasion, and I've wanted to read For Darkness Shows the Stars since it was released. I was thrilled to see it as a bargain book on Amazon!
DeleteNice haul! :D

Thanks for stopping by and following!
DeleteFor Darkness Shows the Stars is really good! It's not an easy book to read, but it's definitely worth it.
ReplyDelete- Ellie at The Selkie Reads Stories
I can't wait to start it! That is, after I reread Persuasion, which I'd been planning to do anyway because it's been a few years since I last read it.
DeleteI haven't read Opal. I just feel like it's similar to Twilight but about aliens. For Darkness Shows the Stars looks so good! I'll go check it out on B&N right now lol. Nice haul!

I definitely see the Twilight comparisons to Lux. They didn't bother me, though; I guess I was too occupied laughing at Katy and Daemon arguing all the time, lol.
DeleteLovely haul, I've read all your buys and liked them all! Happy reading, and I look forward to your thoughts :)
ReplyDeleteI've now run out of room on the shelf that holds all of my YA books, lol. They're going to have to spill over onto the shelf with the adult fiction, and there's a large part of my brain screaming about how my organization system is now messed up.
DeleteJennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series is so good! Happy that you got copies! And I know you will love For Darkness Shows the Stars - that was one of my favorite books of 2012! SOOOOO good :)
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic weekend!
Check out my STS post!
Glad to hear that you enjoyed For Darkness Shows the Stars! As much as I want to read it, I'm also a little nervous about how it's going to compare to Persuasion. I'm hoping for the best!
DeleteI'm dying to read For Darkness Shows the Stars. Everyone has raved about it. Happy reading!
ReplyDelete*btw* I love your top banner.
Here's my StS if you wanted to check it out :)
Thanks! :) When I first found out that For Darkness Shows the Stars was a Persuasion retelling, I immediately put it on my TBR. I love the Austen novel so much, and I knew I had to check out this take on it.
DeleteI've heard really great things about For Darkness Shows the Stars. I may have to purchase a copy of it sometime. I really hope you enjoy all of your books. :)

ReplyDeleteOoh- we definitely need to compare thoughts on The River of No Return! I've heard it's fantastic, so I'm really excited to read it.
DeleteI want to read For Darkness Shows the Stars!
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to read it for ages, and I'm especially eager to find out what this Wentworth is like!
DeleteGah! You ladies are making me wish I could have done the Lux series read along with you hahah! Dying to get into that series and glad to see you're enjoying it :D I definitely want to read For Darkness Shows the Stars too!! Congrats on your stack & happy reading ♥
ReplyDeleteObsidian was quite a nice surprise. I wasn't as keen on Onyx, though. I'm reading Opal now but haven't had too much time to get into it, so we'll see how that one goes.
DeleteI like the look of the Daughters of Zeus series so I might be adding that to my wishlist!
