January 2016 Recap

I hope everyone is off to a great start with 2016! January was on the meh side for me personally and with reading, too. As sadly detailed in this post, I missed my January goal to read 3 books by 1. *womp womp*

I've decided to change things up a bit with the monthly recap posts by spotlighting both my favorite book read in each month and a favorite quote. So January's pick for book of the month goes to:

This was such a haunting, beautifully written read. I don't typically read World War II historical fiction, but this story was absolutely absorbing.

My favorite quote of the month is from Passenger by Alexandra Bracken, which I'm currently reading and loving. I've already written down quite a few favorite quotes from this time travel novel, so it was a bit hard narrowing the choices down to just this one:

"Know this, pirate," he said, his hands gripping the railing, "you are my passenger, and I will be damned before I let any harm come to you."

And finally, the absolutely PHENOMENAL The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman released in January. I cannot recommend this book enough, which is why I'm plugging it once again, lol. Seriously, though, everyone needs to meet Lady Helen Wrexhall and Lord Carlston!

  1. I can't really handle a lot of historical fiction. I love that quote from The Passenger! That's one that I definitely want to get to soon. I also will be reading Dark Days Club soon as well :D I am looking forward to it.

    1. OMG, I can't believe how fast January flew! And February is a short month, even though it's a leap year. Congrats on reading 4 books last month- awesome start to the new year! :D

  3. I've never read anything by the author, but I really want to read Salt to the Sea. I don't read much historical fiction, but I tend to favor WWII books. My sister has read the other two books by this author though, I believe, and she loved them.

I read a really amazing review of The Dark Days Club today and now I NEED to read it. I think the author is coming near me in April, so hopefully I can make it and get a book signed!

    1. If you're looking for a brilliant WWII book, then I absolutely recommend Salt to the Sea. Ruta Sepetys is fantastic at writing historical fiction in general and making you feel like you're right there in the past.

I hope that Alison Goodman's tour brings her close to where I live, too; she also did phenomenal work bringing Regency London to life!

  4. I got Salt to the Sea from my secret sis, and I'm really looking forward to reading it. And I also got Passenger at the book tour - so I'm glad to see that you're enjoying that one too!
