Stacking the Shelves (33)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews. It's an opportunity for everyone to share the new books that we've acquired.

After mulling over a move to WordPress since Google announced the shutdown of Reader on July 1, we are definitely going to make the jump eventually. The "when" all depends on when I have the extra funds for hosting fees and probably buying a paid theme. It's not going to be for a while, so I figured I might as well start studying up on things now, and that's how I ended up with this geeky book haul:

I know there are tons of online tutorials, but whenever I dive into learning new tech skills, I prefer starting out with printed books (that usually have a lot of pages). I have a few other books in the Missing Manual series, and I've found them all extremely helpful. Now on to the fun books:

For Review:

The Year of the Great Seventh by Teresa Orts
You Are Mine by Janeal Falor

Thanks to Teresa Orts and Janeal Falor!

Borrowed:

Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers
Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo
Rebel Angels by Libba Bray

There are still a few days left to enter our first blogoversary giveaway! You can win a book of your choice, up to $15!

What did you add to your shelves this week? Please link me up!

  1. I only have one book by Libba Bray which is The Diviners. I haven't read it though. And, you're switching to Wordpress? I love Wordpress and I understand it more than blogger so I think you girls won't have any problem with the change. (:

    1. The Diviners was excellent- hope you enjoy it when you read it! And we're definitely going to switch to WordPress in the future. I feel like Blogger has become limiting in a lot of ways, plus it freezes up on me a lot.

  2. I've always wanted to read Love and Other Perishable Things, but my TBR pile so enormous that I have no time to get them all :( Anyway, have a great weekend, and enjoy your reads! :D

    1. I can sympathize with you about having a TBR list that I'll probably never get to the end of!

    1. I'm happy to hear it! I wasn't crazy about This Is Not a Test, so I'm hoping that I like her contemporary fiction better.

  6. Libba Bray is okay. Her books are either hit or miss for me personally. I know what you mean about Studying up on tech skills. I might actually do that as well. So I can understand how to do things on my own and not relying on anybody else. Also paying for self hosting can be pricey. Come visit me as well.

    1. I love learning new tech skills, and although I know that moving to WP is going to be a lot of work, I'm also excited to have the opportunity to try out new things. Having to pay for hosting is definitely a downside, but I like the idea of having more control over the tech side of the blog.

  8. It's not geeky Lee, it's SMART.
I wish I did that before I moved to Wordpress, then I wouldn't have had to panic every time something I don't know pops up.
I've heard so many good things about the books Courtney Summers wrote. Hopefully you'll enjoy it.
Enjoy all your books Lee & thanks for stopping by my STS! (:

    1. I'm trying to do as much research as possible before moving so the blog won't have too much downtime, especially since we already have a custom domain name that has to be moved, too. Fingers crossed that all goes relatively smoothly!

  9. I've been contemplating moving to wordpress.org, but haven't had the time to really investigate it much. I might just look into those missing manual books.

Annnyways, enjoy all your goodies ('ve heard gread things about Rebel Angels and Love and Other Perishible Goods) and happy reading :)

  10. I think it's always a good idea to learn as much as you can before making such a big move. I know that I would love to go over there too, but it's just not in my budget right now. Excellent haul! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. It's not in my budget right now, either, so I figured that gives me time to research it thoroughly. I know there will probably still be some unexpected hiccups, but with any luck, there won't be as many as there would be if I didn't do some homework in advance.

  11. I read tech books the same. I prefer printed books to read and find answers vs looking for them online.

    1. I like being able to find all of the info I need in one place, rather than searching through all of the online tutorials I've bookmarked, which usually ends up being a very long list, lol. Thanks for following!

  12. I've been thinking about moving to Wordpress, but like you I don't have the money. I really should start the Libba Bray series (don't know the name). I own the first one, but never read it.

    1. I really enjoyed the first Gemma Doyle book and wished that I had the second one on hand to start reading right away. I still had some other library books out at the time, and I wanted to finish those first. I'm glad I waited because Rebel Angels is over 500 pages.

  13. Oh, Rebel Angels. I loved that book. It was my favorite of the Gemma Doyle series. I also really would like to check out Love and Other Perishable Items.

    Great haul!

  15. Ohh those manuals look thick and consuming! Yet they also look exciting at all the information that lay inside. It looks like you're going to be a master at self hosted wordpress after reading those. Good luck for learning it all!

    1. Thanks! I'm definitely going to need it! I'm excited to learn some new tech skills because I find the tech side of blogging fascinating, but I'm also a bit daunted by it all, in a "What have I gotten myself into?" sort of way, lol.

  16. Nice new books...including the Missing Manual. Like other bloggers, I'm contemplating what to do before July 1. Claimed my account on bloglovin, but still not sure what else I should do. Preparing myself to stretch outside my comfort zone....

In the meantime, here's my haul: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2013/04/sundays-weekly-book-recap-15.html

    1. Bloglovin' was the first Reader alternative that I tried, and I like it. I'd gotten so used to Reader that finding things in Bloglovin' was a bit of work at first, but now I only use Bloglovin'.

  17. Really smart thinking on getting the print Wordpress manuals - I bet it'll make things a lot more simple then searching online for a decent how-to post! And great book haul other than those too, I've heard great things about Love and Other Perishable Items! Libba Bray is an author I need to discover SOON...since I keep discovering new books she's written (or new to me at least >.<) Anyways fantastic haul - enjoy ALL of these Lee ♥

    1. I've seen a lot of positive buzz for Love and Other Perishable Items, too, and was happy to see it at the library. You should definitely check out Libba Bray's books; the two I've read have been terrific paranormal reads.
