Feature & Follow Friday (14)

Feature & Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee's View and
Alison Can Read. It's a great way to meet other book bloggers!

This week's question is:
What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater kind of fell flat for me. The writing and world-building were both outstanding; I just couldn't get into the book. I kept waiting for the action to pick up, but the book maintained a very slow pace throughout (at least for me it did).

If you're a new follower, be sure to let us know so that we can follow you back. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Lol! I sort of have the opposite relationship with my teenage cousins where I'm the guinea pig and they try to convince me to read the books they're not sure they're going to like first.

    1. I'm glad that I borrowed this one from the library instead of buying it because it really wasn't my cup of tea.

      Thanks for the follow!

  4. LOL, yup. I know what you mean. My answer was her Raven Boys book. I really hate her writing style.

    Thanka for stopping by.

    1. And I was hoping that The Raven Boys would be better. I might still try it when the library gets a copy.

  5. That's too bad- I actually enjoyed the slowness of it for some reason. Usually I hate it but in Scorpio Races, I kind of... I don't know- I just really liked it :)

    1. I liked the premise of The Raven Boys when I read it, but I'm also a bit wary because of my experience with The Scorpio Races.

  7. I absolutely loved this book, but I do understand the mixed reviews. It seems like people either loved or hated this one (I fell on the love side of the spectrum). It was slow, but I actually liked it in this case. Sorry to hear it didn't quite work for you!

    1. I guess that based on the synopsis, I was expecting a lot more action. I'm glad that you enjoyed reading this, though!

    1. I've been thinking about reading Shiver, though I've heard mixed things about the rest of the series. The Scorpio Races just wasn't for me; I hope that it works out better for you!

  9. Old follower here... good to know you thought this one had slow pacing, I've been considering reading it!

    1. The pacing wasn't right for me, but her writing is very vivid, so I can understand why other readers really enjoyed the book.

  10. I haven't read The Scorpio Races yet, but I do plan to via audiobook. I must say that I haven't been madly in love with the two Stiefvater books I've read (Shiver & Lament).

    1. I might read Shiver, but Lament doesn't sound all that appealing to me.

  11. Mhm...haven't read that book yet...but I read Shiver and I'm getting the feeling that you should really like Stiefvater's books more for the writing then for plot etc.

    1. I completely agree with you! Her writing in The Scorpio Races was excellent; I particularly liked her descriptions of the setting. It was the story itself that I couldn't get into, and I didn't find any of the characters especially memorable.
