Harry Potter Moment of the Week (92)

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts and Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/films/J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! A list of upcoming topics can be found here.

This week's topic is:
Favorite James Potter Moment

Ever since I first read about the Marauders, I’ve loved them. Sirius is my favorite but I adore the others too—yes, you included, Peter Pettigrew! James Potter has always been a special character to me. Prongs has had such a tremendous effect on so many of the characters in the series without actually having a lot of actual book time. The only actual James Potter book moment that I remember from the HP series is when he and the rest of the Marauders bullied Snape, but I’m not particularly fond of that moment; I honestly really dislike it. So I’m going to go with more of a favorite thing about James. I loved James Potter’s relationship with his friends. He supported them all through everything. Prongs helped Sirius with his family issues, supported Remus with his werewolf issue, and took care of Peter throughout his time at Hogwarts. When it comes down to it, James Potter was a really good guy and I think he would’ve made a wonderful father to Harry.

  1. A lot of people don't like James, and that's fine, but I always liked his character. It had so much depth and he was complicated like an actual person, which I find amazing because we rarely saw him in the books. Yes, he was a jerk to Snape and that horrible but that wasn't all he was. His relationships with his friends and Lilly are just great. He was always loyal to the people he cared about and he would walk through fire for them. I shipped Lilly and James so much because I liked how they went from hating each other, to friends, to loving each other. Their relationship was great and they were there for each other and I loved them together =D. It's heartbreaking that they died but it's just as heartbreaking that they weren't allowed to be parents to Harry. They would have been such great parents and James would have been such a great father :(
Okay, that ends my rant on James =D

    1. I actually really like James Potter too. I also loved the relationship he had with Lily! It was a slow-build romance, like you said, which I think makes it all the more meaningful. It is super sad and it's depressing to think how different the HP series would have been if James and Lily would've survived.

  2. I took the quiz, I'm Ravenclaw!!!!

I'm heartbroken because I so want to be Slytherin... although my son did tell me when we were in Uni-HP that I'm more of a Ravenclaw. Talk about being in denial...

    1. Ravenclaw is awesome, but I'm sad you're not in Slytherin too. Uni-HP? That sounds fun; is it like a Harry Potter based class?

  3. It makes me sad that the moment that people remember the most of James' was that horrible memory of Snape's. It's like you said^^ James was a WONDERFUL friend, he cared for the rest of the Marauders SO MUCH, he would have given his life for any and all of them. Becoming Animagi (Animaguses?! LOL) to help out Lupin is SO SWEET and man, they CREATED the freaking map ♥ He loved Lily too despite the fact that he was an arrogant knob with her sometimes when they were younger XD And he loved Harry enough to set down his life for him :*(

GREAT pick and you're right: he would have been a wonderful father to Harry!

    1. Me too, there's so much more to James Potter than that one scene. And people make mistakes that they regret all the time, so I'm sure looking back as an adult, James must have been slightly ashamed about his treatment of Snape. Haha, the Marauder's Map is like their legacy at Hogwarts! I love the map so much! :)

  4. I think if you would've had random memories from Draco of all three Harry, Ron, and Hermione we would've seen some horrible representations of them as well. I don't think James equals those few memories Snape had of him. Like you, I think of the clues we got throughout the series of his character. Everyone that Harry met loved James and Lily (with the exception of Snape). They all had fantastic things to say about them both. We know he let Sirius live with him when things got bad at home and studied for years to become an animagus to help Lupin with his furry little problem. He kept Peter from getting picked on. I think he was a great man. Love your answer!

    1. That's a really good point. It was Snape's memory and interpretation of the event, so it must've been at least a little biased. Like you said, I try to base James Potter's character on how he treated his friends and what they have to say about him.

  5. Oh I totally agree with you. It makes me so sad thinking about what could have been for Harry. Yeah, James was a bigheaded teenager but he calmed down. He loved his friends dearly and went above and beyond for them. I think people were lucky to call him friend. :D

    1. I agree completely, I would like to think that I would have been James' friend if possible. :D

  6. Oh, I know what you mean by that bullying moment. Bullying is a huge put off for me, because it's so damaging and horrible and it was really traumatic for Snape- I wonder how he would have turned out had James not been such a torment to him?- and that makes it harder for me to appreciate James' external character. I have huge difficulty looking past that. I hope that, as he got older, he could have asked for forgiveness for what he did and Snape and Lily hadn't fallen out, but I suppose that's the tragic beauty of HP. Not everything works out, even if it would be glorious if it did. xx

    1. I know! I felt like after hearing so many great this about James Potter, him bullying Snape seemed so out of character. I just try to remember that James never bullied Peter Pettigrew and chose to protect the kid instead.
