I'm probably going to pass on it, though; I don't think these sci-fi retellings are quite my thing, lol. I do agree with you that there's definitely a lot of potential in placing the original classics in a futuristic setting, but this one didn't make me feel anything for the characters or their love story, which is so disappointing because that was the heart of Persuasion.Lee @ Rally the Readershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03316252000736657757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873992034703741659.post-28435176859455114222015-12-22T18:33:38.462-05:002015-12-22T18:33:38.462-05:00I tried very hard to review this on its own merits...I tried very hard to review this on its own merits, but even if I hadn't already been familiar with Persuasion, there were things here that still weren't going to work for me. :/Lee @ Rally the Readershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03316252000736657757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873992034703741659.post-83508194326143266742015-12-21T17:07:34.677-05:002015-12-21T17:07:34.677-05:00Hmm, reading my review on the second book, I did g...Hmm, reading my review on the second book, I did give it four stars at the time - now I'm wondering if I should change it, since I don't feel like I love it as much now! :DBookish Whimsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16028950059555351758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873992034703741659.post-19789599913769746242015-12-21T17:03:21.222-05:002015-12-21T17:03:21.222-05:00I haven't read this one, but I jumped to the s...I haven't read this one, but I jumped to the second book because it's a take on The Scarlet Pimpernel - I was mostly disappointed with it, so I'm not surprised to read your review. It's too bad, because a sci-fi take on these classic stories is a great idea, and I think there could be a lot of potential for something epic and emotional. I'm wondering if you are planning to read the next book?Bookish Whimsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16028950059555351758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873992034703741659.post-49318988957884569552015-12-21T11:59:07.268-05:002015-12-21T11:59:07.268-05:00Your feelings for this one remind me a little bit ...Your feelings for this one remind me a little bit of how I felt reading Truthwitch with regards to the world building. Despite that though, I can see that I had better luck with it then you had here^^ I'm sorry that this one just didn't click with you Lee - especially considering it's connection to your favorite novel of all time. It seems to me that this book had some pretty big shoes to fill and it simply couldn't manage it. I was really curious to see how you made out with this but I know now that I'll read the inspiration for this one and pass on the adaptation, sci-fi or not!Michelinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09220874121683955988noreply@blogger.com
